Roy Hutts

Roy Hutts, one of the most effective leaders and benefactors of Laguna Woods Yacht club died peacefully August 1 in his home in Laguna Woods. For two years, Commodore Roy led the Club during a contentious period when we were searching for a new boat. Under Roy’s calm and decisive leadership we purchased our current boat Hiatus, secured a berth in Dana Point Harbor, and expanded our membership and social and sailing activities. Most recently, Roy instituted the Preservation Fund for the club in order to insure our ability to cope with major expenses, such as the need to replace Hiatus. Roy provided the initial donation of $5000 to this fund. Although Roy was not an experienced sailor, he was a quiet, friendly crew member who enjoyed being at the wheel or engaging in other crew functions.

With the grace of a southern gentleman, this California native played tennis daily until a few months ago. Roy was 86. He would be the first to agree that he had lived well.
