DAY SAIL INFO

Ongoing activities include day sails, monthly club meetings with refreshments and special presentations, monthly happy hours and skipper’s committee meetings. The calendar below represents a generic monthly schedule. Apart from skipper’s committee meetings, these activities are open to all members. If you are interested in participating in any given activity, please follow the appropriate procedure listed below the calendar.

Eligibility

You must be a member in good standing to sail.  Your membership must be current before you can register, and you must also be a current member on the day of the sail. 

Yacht club members must reside in Laguna Woods Village, CA. Laguna Woods Village is a community for adults aged 55 and older. Prospective members are asked to fill out an application for the waitlist. When openings become available applicants will be notified by the membership committee. At present the capped roster of 125 is full.

Making Day Sail Reservations
A reservation must be made beforehand to day sail  on the website calendar. Each month the calendar opens for sign ups before the following month. Day sails are reserved for members only. Members may sail three times per month and/or two waitlists . Skipper and first mates may sail as needed to ensure safe handling and navigation aboard Hiatus.

If you later need to cancel your reservation, do so as soon as you know. Please always exercise the courtesy of formally cancelling. Please confirm your reservation with the skipper the week of the sail.  Skippers must maintain manageable crew sizes.

Day Sail Information
Afternoon day sails take place aboard the club’s Catalina sloop HIATUS (berthed at Dana Point Harbor, West Landside). Crew should dress appropriately for the weather and sun exposure, and are free to bring snacks and beverages. The sail is subject to cancellation if the weather is inclement, or due to other unavoidable circumstances.

The consumption of alcohol while Hiatus is underway is prohibited.

Guest Policy

Because of high demand by members for day sailing, we are unable to accommodate guests aboard Hiatus.

Getting to the Boat

Laguna Woods Village residents usually meet their skipper at Dock G15 at or before the posted start time for your sail.  To reach Hiatus,  continue on Dana Point Harbor Drive towards Baby Beach. Park at one of the locations as shown on the map below. Meet the skipper at gate G15 and he/she has the key to open the gate onto the docks. The boat is in G15-43.  Return time is dependent upon prevailing conditions, season, etc.; but generally, return is late afternoon to early evening.
