A Poem to the New Year

As the old year sinks down in Time's ocean,
Stand ready to launch with the new,
And waste no regrets, no emotion,
As the masts and the spars pass from view.

                .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .

Throw overboard toil misdirected,
Throw overboard ill-advised hope.
With aims which, your soul has detected,
Have self as their centre and scope.
Throw overboard useless regretting
For deeds which you cannot undo,
And learn the great art of forgetting
Old things which embitter the new.

LWYC SAILING ACADEMY INTRODUCTORY CLASS COMING IN January!!

Are you interested in learning basic sailing skills? The LWYC Sailing Academy will conduct its next Introduction to Sailing class during the month of January, 2026. The format is changing from past classes. The class size will be limited to four students, and will meet on four Fridays in January: the 9th, the 16th, the 23rd and the 30th. Two of the classes will be conducted on-the-water on S/V HIATUS. The class will use the American Sailing Association book, Sailing Made Easy, which all students will have to purchase (Amazon, around $22, only available used, or new here for $30). The course fee will be $50. Students should plan on being able to attend all four classes.

The class will focus on basic sailing concepts and skills. The objective is to make students more comfortable with sailing and boat systems, performing basic crew duties, to become more accomplished crew members, and to allow them to explore and deepen their interest in sailing.

Tim Black will be the lead instructor for the class. If you are interested in joining him, please contact him at: timblack617@gmail.com. There are still two places left for the January class. Other classes will be offered as the year progresses, including a more advanced class.
