How Dana Point became one of only four Whale Heritage Sites in the world

Gisele Anderson, Captain,

Dave's Dolphin & Whale Safari

and

Donna Kalez,

Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching

On January 27, 2021, Dana Point was awarded the prestigious Whale Heritage Site designation by the  World Cetacean Alliance .  “Cetacean” is the scientific name for marine mammals including whales, dolphins and porpoises.  The Vision of WCA is “A World where cetaceans are only found in the wild, are respected and fully protected, and live in sustainable habitats and in harmony with people everywhere.”  Dana Point becomes one of only four Whale Heritage Sites worldwide – the others are located at Harvey Bay in Australia, The Bluff in South Africa, and Tenerife-La Gomera Marine Area in Spain.
