Laguna Woods Yacht Club
Sailing Academy Fall 2019
Intermediate Sailing
The course objective is to provide students an opportunity to attain more advanced sailing knowledge. Boat handling instruction will include the rigging and handling of an intermediate sized sloop-rigged auxiliary sailboat and will focus particularly on the club's vessel Hiatus. In addition to classroom instruction, this will entail significant on-the-water time and experience.
Classes will focus on reading assignments taken from the text. Other relevant topics likely will arise through the sessions themselves and will be addressed as they are encountered. Sessions will be informal allowing for extensive Q and A type exchange. Relevant short videos will accompany some of our discussion topics. In addition to classroom instruction, the course will entail significant boat handling opportunities in on-the-water Lab Sessions and regularly scheduled day sails.
